Animax’s LAST QUARTER Anime Madness

Tuesday, October 14th, 2008
Animax has entered the last quarter of this economically disastrous year. While it’s all doom and gloom at the stock markets, Animax dishes out anime madness in the last three months of 2008 that are sure to keep you entertained.

By now, you are probably being titillated by xxxHolic and scared witless by the horror morality plays in Ayakashi-Japanese Classic Horror. Although the timeslot is just too unfriendly for a non-night owl like me, I suggest you stay tuned until the last story arc “Bakeneko” (”Goblin Cat”). You’re guaranteed a truly visual feast.

From one Ayakashi to another! Watch out for the premiere of Ayakashi Ayashi. Brought to you by Studio Bones — the same animation studio that brought you such Animax favorites as Jyu-Oh-Sei and Wolf’s Rain, Ayakashi Ayashi focuses on the adventures of 40-something slacker Yukiatsu Ryudo and his fellow “ayashi” (or “spirit slayers”) as they rid Edo of gigantic evil monsters called “yoi.”

If sci-fi is more to your liking, then Toward the Terra is the anime for you. When Earth is destroyed, humanity begins a massive plan to colonize distant planets. Governed by a super-computer that controls every aspect of human beings from birth to death, a new race of humans emerge — all possessing the mysterious genetic Mu Factor that endows them with super powers. Toward the Terra is based on the manga by Keiko Takemiya that won the prestigious Seiun and Shogakukan Manga Awards in the late 1970s.

It’s sure to be a romantic holiday season as Animax dishes out not just one, but two romance anime at year’s end.

First, you have the much anticipated Emma: A Victorian Romance Second Act. Escaping from a forbidden love affair with William Jones, Emma moves into the Molders household, only to catch the eye and respect of sullen but dashing footman Hans. Will Emma and William realize their love, or will Hans capture our heroine’s heart?

One romantic comedy that you should watch out for is Nodame Cantabile. Chiaki Shinichi is a talented but hot-tempered pianist who dreams of becoming an orchestra conductor. His life is soon turned upside down by ditsy slob Noda Megumi — or simply “Nodame” — who proclaims herself to be Chiaki’s girlfriend. Soon, the two establish a tenuous bond that slowly leads to their realizing their dreams in music and the love that they hold for each other.

Since the year is soon coming to a close, stay tuned to Animax for their Year-End Specials as the network brings back shows that their viewers have grown to love in 2008.
